  4. IETF Netfax Working Group Meeting
  5. San Diego, 3/16/92 9:30 AM

  8. The IETF Netfax Working Group met at the San Diego IETF
  9. meeting. The primary purpose of the meeting was to get a
  10. progress report and plan future work.
  11.  
  12. 1) Needleman reported that the file format document has
  13.    been accepted by the IESG which has recommended to the IAB
  14.    that it be accepted as a proposed standard. Every indication
  15.    is that this will happen.

  17. 2) Needleman reported that work is going on to convene a meeting
  18.    under the sponsorship of the Coalition for Networked Information
  19.    of all known groups doing applications involving networked
  20.    fax to talk about converting to the rfc file format and to
  21.    plan interoperability testing. He asked that, if anyone knew
  22.    of organizations that were involved in this area who hould
  23.    be involved in such a meeting, that he be contacted with
  24.    their names so he could invite them. He promised to keep
  25.    the mailing list informed on the status and outcome of
  26.    this effort.

  28. 3) Needleman also discussed the fact that after two years of
  29.    discussion and work no consensus had developed on any of
  30.    the other issues the group had been working on beyond the
  31.    file format such as addressing and routing issues and
  32.    that it didnt seem likely that such consensus was going
  33.    to develop any time soon.

  35. 4) It was decided that since such consensus was not going
  36.    to develop, the group would quiesce for awhile and not
  37.    meet again until something happened to create such a need.
  38.    It was felt that perhaps the CNI work would act as a
  39.    catalyst and that maybe in some of the interoperability
  40.    testing undertaken by that group, some solutions to
  41.    some of the unresolved issues such as routing and addressing
  42.    would be created that could act as a basis for future work
  43.    in the IETF working group.

  45. 5) The group thus decided not to meet again until there was
  46.    a need for it, and to follow the efforts of the CNI work.
  47.    Needleman promised to keep the working group updated on
  48.    those efforts by means of the working group mailing list.
